How To Use Secret Picture Tiles In Your Classroom

Have you tried Secret Picture Tile activities yet? They are a low-prep, easy-to-use resource that can be used in multiple ways in second, third, fourth, fifth, or even sixth grade classrooms.

What are Secret Picture Tiles?

Secret Picture Tiles are an activity that can be used for whole group or independent review. They use one sheet of copy paper, or they can be used digitally. Half of the paper is a “board” with twelve clues or questions. The other half of the paper has twelve square tiles with answers.

Students match the answers with the clues on a recording sheet, then cut out the answer tiles. When the answer pieces are placed correctly on the board, a picture is created. If the student has any incorrect answers, the image is mixed up.

How to Use Secret Picture Tiles

Secret Picture Tiles can be used for:

  • centers
  • small groups
  • independent work
  • whole group
  • early finishers
  • Google Classroom
  • homework
  • sub plans

Also, teachers can print the activity pages on cardstock and laminate the pieces for a reusable center. (A small piece of Velcro on the board and tiles makes the pieces stay better.)

What is included in a Secret Picture Tiles resource?

Each Secret Picture Tile resource contains

  • 5 different activity pages for differentiation and reteaching or spiral review
  • A Digital Copy of each activity in Google Drive
  • A Student Recording Sheet
  • Answer keys

Currently, there are Secret Picture Tile resources for ELA and social studies topics in my store.
